The season was upon us

Summer was here, children were enjoying their free time out of school, and adults their vacations. But science knows no vacation!

For us, this was the main season for setting up our experiments and data collecting, as the majority of insects are the most active around this time. This includes fireflies, whose adults are active for only a few weeks between June and July. Here you can see us preparing pitfall traps baited with light lures to determine how streetlamps disrupt the light communication of the most common firefly in the Czech Republic.
