NETWORKING: Workshop at the University Isfahan

At the end of January 2019, a group from our department (J Kropáček, V. Moudrý and D. Moravec) visited University Isfahan, which became an official cooperation partner of the CZU in 2018. They gave a two days workshop titled „Remote sensing and GIS in arid environment“ which was attended mainly by master and PhD students of the Faculty of Geography. Furthermore, the possibility to organize a summer school focused on problems of arid regions as a joint effort was discussed with the Director of International Science Cooperation Office Prof. Tayebi.

The region is suffering from drought and water availability for the growing population in the conditions of climate change will become a serious challenge. By a lucky coincidence, Zayandehrud River passing under historical bridges of Esfahan has water after 18 months of complete dryness of its river bed. This event became a must-see for local people and it attracts even visitors from a further distance.
