Abstract

The project's main goal is to develop a technology of floating artificial islands (as a Nature-based solution) to provide alternative and save breeding opportunities for threatened and declining waterbird species of interest (Common Pochard, Tufted Duck, Black-headed Gull and Common Tern) to increase the species´ reproductive success. Two integrated goals covering two breeding seasons in 2024 and 2025 will precede the delivery of the main goal, which is anticipated to be achieved by June 2026: (1) The development of technology reducing the negative effect of herbivorous waterbird species on islands' vegetation (especially Greylag Goose and Mute Swan) (2) The monitoring of the nest predation by invasive non-native species of interest (Racoon, American Mink and Racoon Dog).
