Abstract:
In response to the alarming loss of biodiversity, we want to evaluate the potential of green roofs to support natural insects and plants communities and develop efficient tools to make green roofs more biodiverse (we plan to create "Standards and Recommendations for the Creation of Biodiverse Green Roofs" that can be used by the Ministry of Environments of the Czech Republic, regional and municipal authorities as well as architects, investors, contractors and NGOs. The gathered knowledge can be used to aid the setting of subsidy schemes on various levels. Another goal of the project is to provide exemplary technical solutions for improving the biological value of existing green roofs and creating new biodiverse and "habitat" green roofs.
