Abstract:
The BIBOB project examines the impact of beaver dams on ecosystems and landscape in the border area of the Czech Republic and Saxony. It emphasises the mitigation of environmental risks resulting from climate change, such as floods and droughts. The project aims to investigate how beaver dams can affect the water balance, biodiversity and resilience of the region to the climate change. The project focuses on a comprehensive analysis of the hydraulic and hydrological effects of beaver dams on surface water and groundwater. Includes also modelling studies and monitoring of the effects of beaver dams on water quality and sedimentation. An important part of the project is the transboundary cooperation between the Czech Republic and Saxony. As the effects of beaver dams transcending borders and have an impact on wider regional ecosystems, landscape and socio-economic factors including tourism. The results of the project will provide recommendations for municipalities and authorities for effective management of beaver dams.
