Environmental Remote Sensing & Geohazards

 

This research includes various applications of both recent and historical satellite and aerial data in environmental sciences. Special issue is usability of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS). We are focused on:

 

Remote sensing in ecology and landscape ecology

  • Remote sensing based habitat / land cover mapping
  • Remote sensing based predictors for species distribution modelling
  • Spectral indices as indicators of diversity and composition of animal communities
  • Lidar and structure from motion (SfM) based metrics as indicators of diversity  and composition of animal communities
  • Invasive Species Distribution Model (iSDM) in Plant Ecology: integrative approach using remote sensed data
  • Spatial and thematic resolution of remote sensing based habitat/land cover models
  • Biomass distribution by radar remote sensing data
  • Land cover / land use change detection
  • Land abandonment in Mediterranean mountains: implications for habitat conservation.
  • Assessing environmental threats through remote sensing: effects of beach litter grooming on coastal physiography.
  • Satellite data in landscape beauty research
  • Analysis of historical aerial and satellite images
  • Techniques of ground truth data collecting

 Microclimate

  • Effects of green roofs on urban microclimate (temperature)
  • Relationship between LiDAR and UAV derived canopy structure and forest microclimate

 Geohazards

  • Cryosphere change in high mountain and polar regions
  • Geohazards induced by cryosphere change, glacial lakes outburst floods
  • Assessment of landslides: detection, monitoring, identification of spatial patterns, volume estimation
  • Monitoring of gully erosion in semi-arid environment from time series of aerial and satellite images
  • Analysis of historical aerial and satellite images
