FES strengthens Czech activities in the Pacific

Peter Kumble and Tomáš Jůnek were FES's delegates for the European Higher Education Fair EHEF 2018, which took place in the Philippines capital Manila on Oct. 10. They were representants, along with other participants, of the consortium of Czech universities called Study in Prague. Thanks to the support of the Czech Embassy in Manila, thousands of young Filipinos have become acquainted with the system of higher education in the Czech Republic and the possibilities of cooperation within the Philippines. Currently, the CZU is working with at least three universities in the Philippines, such as the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), Visayas State University (VSU) and Bohol Island State University (BISU). In the latter one, FES's representatives visited campus management in Bilar and introduced two new research plans with the possibility of launching by the end of 2018.
The Czech Embassy also has already mediated official cooperation with the University of Guam (UOG). The Guam Island, under the US administration, offers a unique opportunity for cooperation in the field of broad environmental issues. The nature of the remote island in the Pacific includes, in particular, the issue of water resources, waste recycling, the impact of tourism, as well as the topic of invasive animal and plant species or the marine ecology. The Czech visit to Guam, which enabled to get familiar with the area as well as a warm university team, was a reciprocal to the UOG president Robert Underwood and Dean Lee Yudin visit to Prague in May.
