FES is on his mission to the Philippines confirmed the survival of critically endangered species of parrot, Red-vented Cockatoo (Cacatua haematuropygia), on the island of Bohol. Last local recorded dates from 2012, when the size of Bohol's population was estimated at only 15 birds. During the expedition to hardly accessible karst terrain around Bilar on Jan. 30, 2017, T. Junek (FES) and Cristy Burlace (Habitat Bohol) reached perching trees and recorded four cockatoos, including three individuals of the Blue-napped Parrot. Cockatoo in the Philippines today survives in few separated populations, the largest and the only stable on the island of Palawan.
