To deepen her knowledge of the field, Pia Rabischong attended the Forensic Entomology Workshop hosted at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Frankfurt am Main. Jens Amendt explained the basics of the field as well as how the court system works in Germany. The group was shown the insect colonization succession on pigs carcasses, and the sampled flies and larvae were then identified, along with forensically important fly species, with Krzysztof Szpila. Lena Lutz explained temperature reconstruction is carried out on a crime scene. To conclude the workshop, students were paired to work on a real case resolved and calculate the minimum Post-Mortem Interval (PMImin): the minimal time since the victim’s death, based on entomological evidence.
