Use of inovative multisensor datalogging method in research of synanthropic birds and mammals

Hedgehogs

Using miniature dataloggers we monitoring behavior of this synanthropic species inhabiting a wide scale of habitats. We compare spatial movements of wild hedgehogs in the wild and in an urban environment in the city of Prague. In cooperation with Prague Wildlife Rescue Center we monitor behavior and survival of hedgehogs returned back to nature. This research can help better understand the impact of human disturbance on ecology of hedgehogs and assess success of rescued hedgehogs after release.

Songbirds

During the breeding season we installed miniature dataloggers on Great Tits and European Nuthatches in different habitats. Using this new technology, we monitor frequency of young feeding, foraging effort and the size of territory of these two model species. Possible using of dataloggers we also tested on young offspring in nestboxes, where the device might reveal process of young feeding and its effect on breeding success.
