Team Leader: Dr. Aleš Urban
Dr. Aleš Urban is a climatologist with extensive experience in human biometeorology and environmental epidemiology. His research focuses on modeling the relationships between climate variability and human health outcomes. Dr. Urban has been associated with the Institute of Atmospheric Physics at the Czech Academy of Sciences and has collaborated with the Hydrological and Climate Variability Group at FES.

In our group, we study how climate and weather affect human health, with a focus on temperature extremes, air pollution, and other environmental stressors. We work at the intersection of epidemiology, biometeorology, and data science to understand how these factors interact – across space, time, and population groups – to influence health outcomes, particularly in cities. We’re especially interested in identifying who is most vulnerable, why that is, and how this might shift in the context of climate change. Using long-term datasets, statistical models, and collaborations across Europe, we aim to produce research that not only advances science but also helps inform public health policy and climate adaptation.
