Conference SGEM 2022

Pavel and Martin went to represent some of our work to the XXIInd International Multidisciplinary Scientific GeoConference Surveying, Geology and Mining, Ecology and Management, SGEM 2022 held in Bulgaria.

Suny Bulgaria welcomed us with open arms, friendly people, and good food. Our posters attracted the attention of fellow scientists as Pavel introduced us to the Biotope preferences of Oiceoptoma thoracicum (Coleoptera: Silphidae). O. thoracicum is a forensically relevant beetle species and knowing what biotope it prefers can be – among other things – utilized in forensic science – namely in detecting if a cadaver was moved between places.

Martin told us about the Effect of alcohol-based preservatives on the quality of beetle larval specimens. Although alcohol is one of the most common fluid preservatives, comparative studies among various methods using this medium are missing. Now we know which one is the best in terms of the visual and genetic quality of specimens.
