The importance of forest patches for the functioning of agricultural landscapes

Ezequiel González and Michal Knapp published a research article in the Journal of Applied Ecology showing that maintaining original forest remnants in the agricultural landscape is important not only for supporting biodiversity, but also for farmers. Research conducted in soybean fields near Córdoba, Argentina, revealed positive effects of forest amount and proximity on beneficial arthropods and subsequent cascading effects, leading to lower damage to soybean plants by pests and higher local soybean yield.
