A new grant from the US National Science Foundation

Kristina Janečková with Petr Sklenička from FES CZU and Mike Daniels from the Denver University are members of a team which has just received a prestigious grant from the US National Science Foundation to study soil erosion, floodplain sedimentation, and the legacy of medieval agriculture in plužina landscapes of the Czech Republic. The goal of this research is to compare high-resolution sedimentological, geochemical, and paleoecological records of soil erosion with spatially-distributed model-based estimates of erosion rates and patterns. From a broader perspective, the project will transform our understanding of soil erosion over time scales that are critically important for understanding longer-term environmental and agricultural sustainability.
