FACILITIES: Cutting edge unmanned aerial systems serve the faculty’s research teams

The Faculty of Environmental Sciences has recently acquired two types of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The first type is a wing-based aircraft called eBee from a Swiss manufacturer – SenseFly SA. This is a very popular and flexible vehicle, capable of fully autonomous flight based on set waypoints.

Apart from a full-HD RGB camera, the vehicle is equipped with a 4-channel multispectral camera system Airinov multiSPEC 4C. The second, larger, model is a cutting edge product of a Czech company – Robodrone Industries. This hexa-copter called Kingfisher is capable of very detailed sensing of any area at the visible spectrum, as well as other spectral channels. For this purpose, the vehicle is equipped with a professional 6-channel multispectral camera system from American Tetracam.

The faculty is also equipped with specialized software solutions for data post-processing, i.e. Postflight Terra 3D, Agisoft Photoscan, Pix4Dmapper, Exelis ENVI and ESRI ArcGIS.
