FES' Human Adaptability Studies team, composed of Michal Hejcman, Ladislav Šmejda and Vilém Pavlů, collaborates with colleagues from Ariel University (Prof. Itzick Shai, Dr. Oren Ackermann) in research at Tel Burna and Tel es-Safi archeological sites in Israel. Czech scientists from the Department of Ecology at both sites took samples of dominant plants and soil for further analysis in the growing season. Research focuses on analyzes of anthropogenic elements that reveal places of former settlement. It does not only concern Biblical cities, the team operates across the gradient from the cradle of agricultural civilization in Israel through Central Europe to the very limit of agricultural settlement in Iceland.
