Anička, Adam and Filip continue with their work on artificial ponds for aquatic invertebrates

Have you ever had the question, where do aquatic bugs like to go? We will soon know the answer. Fieldwork is currently underway in our experimental party tents near Jevany. We are trying to find out what type of habitat the aquatic bug Notonecta glauca prefers. We mark individuals and release them into arenas with different environmental parameters. We focus primarily on the structure and amount of vegetation, the colour of the substrate, and we also measure the polarized light of individual ponds. Next year we will follow up with a similar experiment for dragonflies. When we find out based on which parameters organisms prefer in their habitats, we can prevent the creation of so-called ecological traps in our landscape in the future.
