Project in photovoltaic power plants

Following intensive biodiversity monitoring during spring and summer in photovoltaic power plants, we presented the first part of our findings at the German Ecological Society 2024 Annual Conference (details available in the Book of Abstracts). At the FVE Komorovice power plant, we started the first management works to support biodiversity.

In collaboration with botanists, we planted 13 native shrub species (40 seedlings) and established a flower meadow using a regionally native plant seed mix. An important step towards creating a sustainable environment involved grass clearing, and the extracted material now is reused for constructing nesting walls for solitary bees. Additionally, we plan to enrich the site with a stone wall to provide suitable habitats for reptiles.

We are also continuing the determination of samples from pitfall traps and sweeping nets. By the end of winter, modular insect houses will be installed on-site to further expand the diversity of microhabitats.

We sincerely thank Photon Energy Operations CZ s.r.o. for their cooperation throughout this project and look forward to further activities in 2025!
