Our editor promotes a special issue for women scientists in a scientific journal

The topic editors Yanina Benedetti from FZP’s Community Ecology and Conservation team with colleagues Christine Haaland and Jana Růžičková present an inaugural special issue of the Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution scientific journal, exclusively dedicated to female scientists.
Long-standing biases discourage women from science-related fields, particularly in STEM research, resulting in a 70 to 30 percent disbalance favoring men over women in research positions. To change traditional mindsets, highlighted by UNESCO science and gender equality vision, stereotypes must be defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers. Therefore, Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution is proud to offer this series as a platform to promote the work of women scientists, across all fields of ecology and evolution. To be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a woman researcher. The manuscript submission deadline is set for April 30th, 2023. The journal scope includes the entire breadth of urban ecology research and presents advances in theory, experiment, and methodology with applications to compelling problems.
