Yannis Markonis joins our team as a postdoc researcher

Yannis has recently finished his PhD in hydroclimatology in the National Technical University of Athens being supported by the National Scholarship for Excellence and supervised by prof. Demetris Koutsoyiannis. Hydroclimatology is a field of research which combines elements from both hydrology and climatology, focusing on the phenomena that can be found in the intersection of these two sciences, e.g. droughts. Area of Yannis’ expertise involves mainly statistical analysis of temperature and precipitation in multiple temporal and spatial scales, therefore he has made large “excursions” in the past using palaeoclimatic data. The results of this research have been published in some prestigious scientific journals, such as Nature Climate Change, Surveys of Geophysics and Journal of Hydrology. Right now, Yannis is a convener of a session in the annual European Geophysics Union assembly, reviewer in numerous hydrological and climatological journals and very enthusiastic of his new appointment as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Modeling at FES/CZU Prague.
