Supporting the biodiversity of solitary bees

Solitary bees are important pollinators of many plant species. However, their populations have been declining sharply over the past decades. Supporting these bees is crucial not only for biodiversity but also for essential ecosystem services. One effective way to assist solitary bees is by creating suitable nesting opportunities both in rural and urban environments. Therefore, we have launched a long-term research aimed at supporting these pollinators. The research was conducted using our own specially designed equipment — nesting units with precisely milled cavities, stems made of durable natural materials, and pots filled with sandy soil. At 40 sites (on the campus and green roofs of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, in Sacré Coeur Park, and on the green roof of OC Nový Smíchov), we deployed our experiment to promote the biodiversity of solitary bees.

We will continue to keep you informed about the progress of the research through our team Facebook and this website.
