The following topic is currently available: Behavior of Poly- and Perfluoroalkyl Substances in Soil and Aqueous Environments. Due to their high stability and serious concerns for health and the environment, poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have attracted much interest lately not only of the scientific community, but also of the general public (e.g., the movie Dark Waters). Previous attempts to investigate PFAS behavior and distribution at different trophic levels have been limited by the number of investigated species and the fate of PFAS across the whole food chain and abiotic factors is still unknown. This PhD topic proposes to fill this gap by investigating PFAS behavior in various environmental matrices, soils and surface waters, including their possible interactions with other conventional and emerging contaminants.
