From classroom to field: student practice in the Příbram Region

From June 2 to 4, 2025, students took part in an immersive Field Practice course at our experimental site near Trhové Dušníky, Příbram District. Over three days, they explored the real-world aspects of environmental geoscience through excursions, soil and water sampling, and field measurements.

The practice introduced students to essential fieldwork techniques while providing valuable geological and geochemical insights into the Příbram region – an area shaped by a legacy of mining and smelting that has left significant metal contamination. This experience is part of our long-term research and monitoring efforts in one of the most metal-polluted areas in the country.

A highlight of this year's course was a visit from Prof. Eakalak Khan of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (USA), an internationally recognised expert on contaminant fate and transport in the environment. Prof. Khan shared his insights and inspired students with perspectives on global environmental challenges.
