Our annual Field Practice, held from June 1 to 3, 2026, introduced students to the geological and environmental diversity of the Czech Republic through a combination of field excursions and hands-on training. The programme began at the Požáry National Natural Monument in Prague, where students explored remarkable geological formations, followed by a visit to the Kozárovice quarry. A stop at the historic slag heap near the former Příbram smelter highlighted the lasting environmental legacy of mining and metallurgical activities in the region.
The course concluded at our experimental site near Trhové Dušníky (Příbram District), where students gained practical experience in soil, surface water, and porewater sampling. They learned key principles of representative sampling, field measurements and documentation, and proper sample handling, i.e., essential skills for reliable environmental and geochemical investigations. By combining theoretical knowledge with real-world fieldwork, the course provided students with valuable practical experience in environmental geoscience.
