The Best Places to Study in Prague

We all know that studying or working on homework can get a little overwhelming sometimes – deadlines, exam dates coming up and your friend asking if you have already started studying for the test you didn’t even know about. I personally get stressed all the time but the more work I have, the more my procrastination starts kicking in and I don’t know where to begin. So what helps me, every time, is to leave my house and go to a place that doesn’t remind me of my bed. Because let’s be honest, if you study in your room, how often do you look over to your bed and think ‘Oh how nice and cozy I could be right now, wrapped in my warm blanket’? So let me tell you a little about a few nice spots in Prague where, hopefully, you will get more work done than in your room, or should I say, bed??

1. National Technical Library (NTK) - Prague 6

Located in the heart of Prague 6, the National Technical Library (NTK) is a must-visit for any desperate student in need of a focused and quiet space to study. The library is one of the most modern in Prague, offering vast collections on technology, engineering, and sciences. Open 24/7, the library is THE place to be. The concrete balconies around the atrium are decorated with over two hundred avant-garde comic-style drawings by Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi. Each with their own meaning, mostly about todays society and world, they still catch my eye every time I enter. With four study floors, there are plenty of places to have a study day. Or, do you need to work on a group project and need to sit with a lot of people? No problem, NTK has private study rooms for you and your classmates – and some chill out zones with couches for you to take a break and analyze some more drawings on the walls. And if you are worried about getting hungry, grab a snack in a wending machine on each floor or at the café downstairs. This is definitely my top 1 place to go- seeing all of the other students studying motivates me to do so too, you NEED to go and see for yourself!

Location: Technická 6, Prague 6, near the Dejvická metro station.

2. Místo- Prague 6

And now on to cafés, if a library full of students stresses you out haha. Another place close to Dejvická is the Place! Sorry, the “místo” which means “place” in Czech. Nice, big, cozy, yummy. Highly recommend, I have always found a spot to sit here and it is perfect for meeting your friends before or after classes, since it is close to Hradčanská which is close to Dejvická which is close to our campus :)

3. The Miners Café

Next we have one of my top choices, a chain place, The Miners. With different locations throughout Prague, including in popular districts like Žižkov and Vinohrady, this café is well-known for its relaxed atmosphere, perfect for you, your laptop and books. The café’s minimalist decor, free Wi-Fi, and spacious seating make it easy to focus while sipping on some yummy coffee or, my personal favorite, an iced coconut matcha latte. Just watch out for the opening hours, each location differs a little. And a little tip from me! Get the The Miners Coffee Club card to earn cashback points every time you buy something. You earn 1 point for every 1 Czech crown you spend and then, get your reward once you have enough points for a free coffee or other products :)

4. mamacoffee

Mamacoffee is another top pick. This local chain specializes in high-quality coffee, and the atmosphere is perfect for anyone seeking a balance of productivity and comfort. My favotite location is the one on Vodičkova 6, because it has two floors and therefore more places to sit. I sometimes even come for breakfast here and spend many, many hours enjoying the vibe here. It is almost my second home haha.

Locations: Vodičkova 6, Praha 1; Londýnská 49, Praha 2; Jaromírova 576, Praha 2, Nusle; Podolská 23, Praha 4, Podolí; Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad 12, Praha 3; Čechova 310/1, Praha 7; Pohořelec 2, Praha 1, Hradčany

5. Coffee and Riot

Last but certainly not least, Coffee and Riot is a hidden gem located in Prague's center. This café has plenty of space for working on your laptop or meeting with study friends, and the peaceful and quiet atmosphere helps you focus without distractions. I love their homemade pastries and fresh tea here! Sitting on the wooden chairs, glancing out the blue framed windows from time to time and seeing plants all around the place makes me feel like I am at my cozy grandparents country house, minimalistic, yet full of feeling of comfort. Close to Národní třída!

Location: Opatovická 17, Nové Město, Praha 1
