Our colleague from the Department of Applied Ecology, Lenka Wimmerová, recently visited the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 ICM project (2022 call).
During her stay, she gave two guest lectures – one on toxicology and the other on sustainability. The primary aim of her visit was to establish collaboration in high-level research, particularly in the areas of toxicology and sustainability, and to initiate discussions on student exchanges and future joint projects.
The University of Saskatchewan expressed strong interest in participating in European research programmes, which are actively supported by the Canadian government. The Canadian partners were especially impressed by our CZU campus and its wide range of sustainability-focused initiatives.
Research interests on both sides open up promising opportunities for collaboration. While our department focuses on microplastics and algae, the Canadian team specializes in enzyme research, has access to a state-of-the-art DNA laboratory, and is licensed to conduct pilot tests in freshwater lake environments, including fish testing.
This visit marks an important step toward building long-term cooperation between our institutions in the fields of environmental research and sustainable development.
