FZP student Swati Raina recently took part in the IDEAL Summer School, “(Understanding) Human Pressures on Aquatic Ecosystems”, organized as part of the Interreg IDEAL Project. Over five inspiring days, the program combined scientific training with field-based learning, covering topics such as wastewater treatment, pharmaceuticals in aquatic systems, hydromorphology, macrozoobenthos, sediment analysis, invasive species and effect-based monitoring.
The summer school included visits to wastewater treatment plants, field sampling, hydromorphological assessments, sediment sampling, Daphnia toxicity tests and interactive workshops that connected chemical, biological and habitat data. One of the highlights for Swati was collaborating with students and researchers from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds – the outdoor activities, discussions, and hands-on sessions made the learning experience both engaging and memorable.
She is also thrilled that her group won the award for the Best Creative Presentation, a wonderful opportunity to combine science, teamwork and creativity.
